Recently, ExxonMobil launched a new multi-purpose paper oil, Mobil DTE PM Excel, suitable for a wide range of paper machine applications. The advanced lubricant can be used at all stages of the production process and whenever a high performance gear or circulating oil is required. Additionally, it provides effective lubrication for wet end, dry end and press sections. With this invention the corporation aims to help paper manufacturers to reduce costs, increase productivity, and extend maintenance intervals.

Discussions with Potential Buyers of Kodak’s Prosper Inkjet Business Continue
Kodak announced that the sale of its Prosper commercial inkjet business will continue into 2017 and that they remain in talks with potential buyers. After the sale, the technology company intends to focus on developing touch sensors on copper mesh technology for micro 3D printing operations. The details of the sale process are confidential.

Heidelberg USA’s Apprenticeship Program
In order to address the need for more technically skilled operators in the printing industry, Heidelberg USA starts running an apprenticeship program. Following the example of its German parent company, the US branch developed its own educational outreach, beginning with a comprehensive introduction. In this time the participants learn print application basics and all operational functions on a Heidelberg press and peripheral equipment. In total, the vocational development comprises a period of three years.

Installation of a Konica Minolta Bizhub Press C1085 at Cascade Group
In October, Cascade Group installed a Konica Minolta Bizhub Press C1085 in one of its production units, replacing a four-year-old digital press. The print and design specialist especially appreciates the durability of its new four-color press. The machine is able to handle stock thicknesses from 55gsm to 350gsm. It prints sheet sizes up to SRA3 at a maximum resolution of 1.200×3.600dpi. The purchase represents a continuation of Cascade’s growth plans, including the opening of a fourth sales office and a design studio as well as the possible buy of a second bizhub in Q1 2017

European Defence Agency Announced New Defence-Related Additive Manufacturing Project
As part of an additive manufacturing project, the European Defence Agency (EDA) Research & Technology department has initiated a report, exploring which impact 3D printing applications might have on military and defense purposes. The next phase in the initiative will be to go beyond studying the technology’s potentials by conducting a tech demonstration. The project will be carried out by EDA contractors, the Fundación Prodintec research center, and the defense industry MBDA France.
