A new large-format book, printed by FE Burman, is meant to show brand users the possibilities of print. The book called ‘Digital Print. A Bigger Spectrum’ was produced in association with HP, and contains a variety of case studies showing different ways that brands around the world have found clever and innovative ways to use digital printing techniques.

New 3D printing method opens up possibilities for sports equipment
A team of engineers at the University of Bristol has developed a new type of 3D printing that can print composite materials, which are used in many high performance products such as tennis rackets, golf clubs and aeroplanes. This technology will soon enable a much greater range of things to be 3D printed at home and at low-cost.

WEF: 3D printing, AI robots and nanotech could result in fewer jobs
A recent report by the World Economic Forum (WEF) has predicted that the so-called Fourth Industrial Revolution, characterized by the rise of 3D printing and additive manufacturing, robotics, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, machine learning and biotechnology, will lead to over five million human jobs being eliminated within the next four years. The job reduction will happen across 15 of the world’s most powerful countries, with office and admin roles set to be hit the hardest.

Georgia Pacific updates its packaging design and testing institute
The upgrade includes a wet lab that allows customers test different paper options for their packaging. Georgia Pacific also completed the work to achieve LEED or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver certification and the changes allow for fast prototyping and pre-test conditioning of packaging materials.

New on the drupa blog: Wool packaging keeps pharmaceuticals cool
It seems counterintuitive, but British company Woolcool uses wool-filled packaging insulators to keep food and pharmaceuticals cool. Wool is not only effective in keeping temperatures at the desired level, Woolcool says it is also more environmentally friendly than polystyrene commonly used for insulated bags and boxes.
