European consortium develops nanotech food packaging
Experts from technology centers and food or packaging companies from eight European countries are working together to develop a varnish with antimicrobial, oxygen and water vapor barrier properties to be used in the food industry. The project called Svarnish aims at reducing waste and developing environmentally friendly, low-cost and recyclable packaging solutions.

HP’s digital Indigo printers power Coke’s personalized labels
When Coca-Cola chose to print labels with different patterns for one million Diet Coke bottles, the company selected HP’s digital Indigo printers. After the campaign had proven successful, it launched a campaign with a customer’s name on each bottle. These two campaigns illustrate the power of digital printing, especially when print runs are small.

3D printing robot will print bridge in Amsterdam
The Netherlands has embraced 3D printing from the start. The country has showcased printed houses and is home to some exciting 3D printing companies such as 3D Hubs. Now, another exciting project is taking place in the Netherlands: The company MX3D has created a 3D printing robot that can print structures in the air. The first project will be a bridge over a canal in Amsterdam.

ISO adopts X-Rite’s Color Exchange Format
This ISO standard (ISO 17972-1:2015) provides the graphic arts industry with an accurate, efficient way to communicate color information across the supply chain. The ISO TC130 committee that sets global standards for the Graphic Arts has now adopted the X-Rite Color Exchange Format version 3 (CxF3) as the new standard for color data exchange and verification.

Fuji Xerox New Zealand to reduce environmental impact
Fuji Xerox has become the first company in the New Zealand print industry to have its Product Stewardship Scheme accredited by the Ministry for the Environment. The accreditation comes from Fuji Xerox reducing its environmental footprint with its Zero Landfill Scheme, which aims to divert 99.5 per cent of all returned Fuji Xerox branded equipment, consumables and associated packaging through either re-use or recycling.

Amcor Rigid Plastic introduces 100% recycled detergent bottle
Method Products specializes in environmentally friendly cleaning products. Their newest line of laundry detergent comes in a bottle supplied by Amcor Rigid Plastics. Amcor claims it is the first liquid laundry detergent bottle to be made of 100% PCR PET. The category historically has been dominated by opaque high-density polyethylene (HDPE) containers.
