New method for realistic color inkjet 3D printing
Developing methods to 3D print in color has been one of the more exciting challenges the field has faced. Now, researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research in Germany outlined an algorithmic process of producing highly defined and accurate colored 3D prints, which have an life-like look to them.

Next Printing wins HP Sign & Display Awards
Australia’s Next Printing won big at the HP Sign & Display Awards for Asia Pacific and Japan, winning four of the seven awards, and taking out the overall Grand Award. Supastick Labels was awarded one of the two Grand Winner titles in the HP Indigo section, the WA label printer winning in the Wine & Spirits label section.

The 2015 sheetfed ink report is out
Ink World Magazine has published the new sheetfed ink report, which essential tells the tale of two markets. While folding carton packaging is a growing market, the publication and commercial sheetfed segment has stabilized somewhat after a few years of declining sales. Sheetfed ink manufacturers interviewed for the report confirm these trends.

A 3D printed oral cancer diagnostic kit could help in early detection
Much of the breakthroughs in medical 3D printing have come from bioprinting but a new application shows that 3D printing can also help the medical devices industry. The Israeli-American Milestone-Studio has introduced the Vista Dental’s OncoLight Oral Lesion Screening Kit that could be used to catch oral lesions that can become cancerous early and thus greatly increase the survival rate of people with this type of cellular anomalies.

Avery Dennison expands beer label portfolio
The number of North American craft breweries grew 18 percent in 2014, according to the Brewers Association. To help this nearly 20 billion USD industry meet its growing branding needs, Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials has expanded its Craft Beer portfolio with five new label constructions, including a royal white and matte litho wet-strength construction.

After being let go from his position as Paperlinx CEO before the company went into administration, Andrew Price has now been hired as HH Global’s chief executive of Asia Pacific. He will start his new position in August.

Lecta extends its range of metallized papers with a new wet-strength grade for non-returnable containers. The labels are able to withstand moist, cold conditions on glass and PET bottles. The paper is named Metalvac E LWS.
