Xerox partners with Canadian firm to fight counterfeit pharmaceuticals
Even though the amounts of counterfeit pharmaceuticals on the market vary from country to country the overall trend points upwards. To fight this problem, Xerox announced a partnership with the Canadian print solutions provider OTC Group. The companies have developed a solution for unique serialization and package tracing.

The Ghent Workgroup (GWG) is spearheading a crucial initiative, with support from Kodak, Esko, IDEAlliance and the Flexographic Technographic Association (FTA); to insure that premedia and print professionals understand the importance of standards. The groups will educate their members and customers in workshops and meetings.

3D printing research aims to change common ideas about furniture
Big, heavy furniture made of dark wood could soon be a thing of the past, at least if Chinese researchers Li Honghua from the Simon Fraser University in Canada and Hu Ruizhen with the National University of Defense Technology in China succeed in spreading their ideas. The research team is working on 3D printed foldable furniture that is created with science, ergonomics, and a sense of design in mind.

Resolute Forest Products will enter tissue market
The Canadian company Resolute Forest Products plans to invest 270 million USD in the construction of a tissue paper facility at its Calhoun mill in Tennessee, USA. The company plans to enter the market for bathroom tissues and towels by by 2017 and to reach a capacity of 60.000 tons per year.

In the past, Epson has systematically strengthened its textile printing business. The most recent move: Epson Italia completed the acquisition of For.Tex S.R.L., a leader in the textile printing industry. Epson Italia purchased a 50 % stake in For.Tex in 2012.

In a move to position itself for growth in the international inkjet market, International Imaging Materials (IIMAK), a global leader in the development and manufacture of printing, imaging and marking consumables, has acquired American Ink Jet (AIJ) effective 1st June. The deal includes all formulas, brands, manufacturing assets and processes from AIJ.

3D printing deemed critical for growth in the manufacturing sector
A report from the Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation Foundation in the U.S. has suggested that both central and local governments should invest more resources into 3D printing. Analysis from the Foundation indicated that 3D printing is already beginning to shorten supply chains in a number of industrial markets by reducing on costs and improving production efficiencies.
