The engineering, 3D and design firm Autodesk is convinced that 3D printing is the future of manufacturing. It says the government should encourage industries to shift from conventional manufacturing methods to digital manufacturing technologies to create value by improving operational effectiveness and product innovation.

The company opened the center at its headquarters in Helsinki. The center features a packaging design lab, presentation areas with advanced touch screen technology and virtual reality retail technology.

European law firm looks at 3D printing IP issues
The topic ‘intellectual property and 3D printing’ has created more questions than answers in most of the recent discussions. Now, the Dutch law firm De Clercq Advocaten Notarissen has issued a white paper that covers intellectual property law and copyright law as well as product liability and 3D printing. The paper is based on Dutch law, which is consistent with the EU Directives.

Good reasons not to compete on price alone
Print Media Centr has shared the first results of a survey about the factors that influence pint customers’ buying decisions. The most important result: It’s not price. In fact, the second most important thing to print buyers is their relationship with their printers (26 %), and cost was third at 20 %. A team of researchers at the Media Innovation Studio at University of Central Lancashire looked closely at newspaper pages. They saw much more than just ink and paper: They envisioned the printed page to become an interactive surface connected to the internet of things (IoT) that would respond to touch and offer audio playback and other unexpected features.
