New direct-write laser scanner prints perfect holograms
With funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF), scientist Michael Escuti developed a direct-write laser scanner, which prints using an ultraviolet laser on a super-thin film – only about 50 nanometers thick. The film is made of a photoreactive polymer that responds to both the intensity and the polarization of the light.

New filament is made from beer
New materials for 3D printing are developed almost constantly, ranging from astonishing to useful to, well, almost bizarre. I would put one new filament definitely in the latter category: beer filament. Brought to us by the same company that developed filament made from coffee earlier this year, 3Dom USA. The filament called Buzzed is made from the waste byproduct from the beer-brewing process. Spent grain comprises up to 85 % of a brewery’s byproduct.

Paperlinx Germany enters administration proceedings
PaperlinX’s German paper merchanting operation PaperlinX Deutschland GmbH and its immediate parent entity Deutsche Papier Holding GmbH are beginning administration processes after declaring insolvency. This will result in the local Director directly managing and administering these entities under the supervision of a court appointed Trustee. The paper operation in Germany has been trading unprofitably, reports Paperlinx.
