Competition increases in German plastic packaging market
A survey by the industry association Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen e.V. among its members showed that most plastic packaging producers in Germany have modest expectations for their revenues in the fourth quarter. 30 % of the participating companies expect their revenue to be lower than originally expected. This is mainly attributed to harsher competition.

ESA test 3D printing for 2016 space mission
Engineers at the European Space Agency (ESA) recently teamed up with scientists from the Netherlands research institute TNO to redesign a 3D-printed mirror. The mirror represents a crucial piece of equipment set to fly on ESA’s Sentinel-5P mission in 2016.

Oxfam introduces biodegradable coffee capsules
Coffee machines that use capsules have become increasingly popular. However, they have one major drawback: The portion-size aluminum capsules are difficult to recycle and often end up in landfills. Oxfam has now presented a solution that uses biodegradable plastic and can be recycled or decompose naturally in landfills. The range of capsules filled with Fair Trade coffee are compatible with Nespresso machines.

Adobe announces new 3D printing features
In their third release to Photoshop CC in just four months, Adobe announced 35 new features. Several will provide enhanced 3D support, including new printer profiles, support for 3D PDF files and the ability to read CALLADA rigging and animation data.

FESPA relaunches its Planet Friendly Guide
As a key benefit for its members, FESPA has published a new edition of its Planet Friendly Guide. Originally published in 2007 as a single document, the FESPA Planet Friendly Guide has now been reconfigured as one introductory guide and 10 subject-specific guides covering topics such as Pollution for Digital Printers, Hazardous Substances for Screen Printers, Emissions to Water for Screen Printers and Environmental Management. The guides are available free of charge to members of FESPA’s 37 national member associations.
