Heidelberg USA promoted their former Business Consultant Dr. Mark Bohan to Director of Prinect and CtP at Heidelberg USA. Bohan will report directly to Andy Rae. The Senior Vice President of Equipment and Marketing argues that Bohan’s broad industry and consulting experience are perfect for Printect. Before Bohan was employed by Heidelberg USA, he has been working in the graphic communications industry for 25 years, including 11 years as Vice President, Technology and Research at Printing Industries of America.

Rising demand for high-performance pigments
The Smithers Rapra study “The Future of High-Performance Pigments to 2021” forecasts a CAGR of 3 percent until 2021 in the market of high-performance pigments (HPP). With this come further performance requirements such as optimizing durability, color strength, dispersibility, chemical stability and reducing solubility. HPPs will mainly be used for coatings, plastics, inks and cosmetics.

Outlook: Online becomes increasingly profitable for the printing industry
Electronics for Imaging’s (EFI) chief executive Guy Gecht points out that making a step towards the online world is essential for the printing industry. Due to the development towards a more digital society customers are increasingly claiming short run, personalized, and on demand work without waste or lead time, states the expert. To meet the expectations of customers digital print is the perfect solution because it offers lucrative opportunities, especially in areas such as signage, packaging, textiles and decoration.

Introducing the first 3D printed superfood popsicles: Dream Pops
Together with three-Michelin-star chef Juan Amador the company Dream Pops, based in Los Angeles, prints ice cream made from sugar, water – and superfoods. Thanks to their invention the popsicles are not only nutritious but also beautifully shaped. As the company cools the products with liquid nitrogen they are ready to serve them on demand. Additionally Dream Pops offers other companies to cooperate with them in creating custom popsicle molds. Recently they printed molds for Versace in the shape of their logo.

Huhtamaki joins the European folding carton packaging market
Finnish Huhtmamaki has announced to cooperate with Belfast based folding carton packaging manufacturer Delta Print and Packaging to enter the European folding carton packaging market. With this acquisition the food packaging specialist aims to expand its business in foodservice, packaged food and retail markets.
