3D printing is definitely becoming more mainstream – a look around the popular Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas will convince almost any skeptic. Every day, companies such as XYZ Printing, Robo and Ultimaker are presenting new printers with new capabilities.

Voltera launches circuit board printer
The V-One circuit board printer is, according to Voltera, the first affordable printer for home use that is able to print two layer circuits onto FR4, the industry standard substrate. The printer is also cable of dispensing solder paste and baking the board to attach all the small components.

Smith & Ouzman found guilty in corruption trial
The security printing company that prints voting material, visas, payroll documents and other sensitive material has been found guilty of corruption after its has been investigated by Britain’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO) in the UK. The company was convicted of paying bribes to public officials in Kenya and Mauritania.

HP strengthens European presence in digital printing
HP remains strongly committed to digital printing for packaging. Its presence in several major European events as well as its partnerships shows that HP aims to pursue color digital printing of primary and secondary packaging in all regions.

FESPA China with record-breaking attendance
FESPA China attracted more visitors than ever. Nearly 12,000 visitors from 90 countries attended the show, a 32 percent plus compared to last year’s event. The organizers view this as a very positive and encouraging sign for the next FESPA China, which is set to take place from October 21 to 23 in Shanghai.

Irn-Bru introduces personalized labels
The trend for personalization in the label industry continues. Scottish beverage brand Irn-Bru has introduced a series of label designs to capitalize on the growth in personalized packaging and to tie in with the forthcoming Burns Night celebrations. The labels feature the 100 most popular names in Scotland.

The 10 most difficult packaging materials to recycle
Recycling is high on everybody’s list in the efforts to use fewer resources and protect the environment. However, some common materials such as cardboard with plastic film or full shrink-wrap labels are still difficult to recycle, according to an article in Packaging Digest.
