Formation of paper cup group
A new initiative has formed to represent the whole paper cup supply chain in the UK in its aims to develop collection and recycling opportunities for paper cups. The Paper Cup Recovery and Recycling Group (PCRRG) includes Benders Paper Cups, Caffè Nero, First Mile, Grundon Waste Management, Huhtamaki, James Cropper, Mars Drinks, Maxabel International, Mondelez International, Nestlé Professional, Seda Group, Selecta UK, Solo Cup Europe and StoraEnso.

Paper and packaging webinar
The Paper and Packaging Board is hosting a webinar on 15th and 17th July at 11:00 AM EST. The event aims to provide paper and paperboard packaging manufacturers and importers with a progress report on the implementation of the check-off program.

German print market declines
The current market situation of the German printing companies has declined again in June 2104 but is still better than the previous year.  However, they are optimistic about the future, according to a monthly poll by the Ifo institute Munich with about 300 German print companies. Layered paper 3D printers
The Irish company Mcor’s has developed a paper-based 3D printer building objects out of cut-and-glued sheets of standard office paper. This makes printed objects a lot cheaper and also works without toxic fumes or solvent dips.

Silver printing with UV light
Japanese Tanaka Holdings has developed a silver paste that allows circuits to be screen-printed without the need for thermal curing. The circuit can be cured by exposing it to UV light for around 10 seconds.

European packaging research
The Technological Institute of Plastic in Spain is cooperating with seven European companies and technological centers to develop new biodegradable materials for dairy product packaging. The project BIOBOTTLE works with a fund of 1m €.
