3D Print New York to open its doors in April
On April 13-17, 2015, 3D printing will take center stage in a citywide event called 3D Print New York. Meckler Media, the organizer of the trade show, hopes it will be the largest 3D printing centered event ever held.

Heidelberg unveils new die-cutter and folder-gluers
The product launches at Heidelberg’s Packaging Days event include the Promatrix 106 CS die-cutter and additions to the Diana Smart series of folder-gluers. These are the first new products introduced since Heidelberg announced its outsourcing deal with Chinese manufacturer Masterwork Machinery in August.

European Sign Expo returns to Germany
After being held in Munich in 2014, the European Sign Expo 2015 will take place on May 18-22, 2015 in Cologne, Germany alongside FESPA 2015. Exhibitors and speakers include leading companies from the European sign industry who will bring the latest developments in equipment, software, signage materials and systems, fittings and fixtures, channel lettering, illuminated signage, dimensional signage, engraving and etching.

Digital or screen print – which one to choose?
This question keeps many printing companies that specialize in sign and display graphics pondering the advantages and disadvantages of each technology. And while the digital option has clearly become the dominant technology today, there’s still plenty of life in screen printing. Smurfit Kappa’s white paper shows great opportunities
Smurfit Kappa has published a white-paper report titled ‘Marketing on the shelf – exactly how in control are you?’, that reveals that brands are often failing to seize upon the powerful marketing opportunity in-store packaging represents. In particular, many are missing out on the growing trend towards Shelf-Ready Packaging as a measurable way to influence shoppers directly at the point-of-purchase, where most decisions are made to buy a brand or switch to another.

New plastic breaks down under UV light
A team of researchers at North Dakota State University, Fargo, discovered that a new type of plastic could be broken down into molecules when exposed to a specific type of light. The molecules could then be used to make new plastic products, thus making the material truly recyclable. The research was published in Angewandte Chemie, a leading international journal.
